Budget & Beautiful:
When visiting little Andorra, my cousin and I wanted to stay away from the charmless capital full of shoppers and bankers. We wanted to see scenery and get a feel for the country beyond duty-free. We chose the charming little town of Ordino because it was accessible from the capital by bus as well as near hiking trails into the mountains. The Hotel Coma looks and feels like a classic ski resort. But in the off-season it is a VERY reasonably priced hotel. It was not crowded, but we did not come to Ordino from Barcelona for crowds. The hallways are a little reminiscent of the movie “The Shining” and the floors creaked loudly when I walked down the corridor. The rooms however were very modern and had balconies with a view of the Pyrenees and the village below. The hotel was located on a hill at the edge of the village center so it made grabbing food and drink very easy. The quiet of this village in the mountains was good for sleep. There is a local restaurant in the hotel that serves seasonal fare, but is a little expensive, probably because the winter guests are probably paying a lot more than we were in the Spring. The bar is jolly when there is someone tending it, but often there wasn’t… in the Spring anyway. Still it was a very comfortable place to stay and the views were more than worth the affordable rates.
