Charmless in a charming city:
The Holiday Inn, near the Nachtmarkt is a passable choice if you stay in Vienna. It is near the U-Bahn and a 20 minute walk to the city center. Only one stop on the train though. Apparently it is also in a gayborhood, so if you are looking for LGBT+ nightlife this could work out for you. The hotel is bright and the rooms are small but modern. However, our air-condition did not work properly, seemingly because the filters were stuffed and not cleaned in awhile! Quite obvious actually. Yuck. Brought this to the management’s attention but nothing was done. A continental breakfast was offered for 17 euro which was flabbergasting! It basically looked like simple breakfast fare. Why anyone would pay that instead of going to a nearby cafe and having a much better and authentic breakfast for a fraction of the cost is beyond me! What a rip-off. My sister seemed to sleep fine, but the room was just too hot for me. The concierge arranged for a taxi to drive us to the airport very early in the morning, which was helpful, since we had to be at the airport before Vienna’s metro resumed for the day. All in all, not a great place, but not bad either. It definitely did nothing to change my lack of enthusiasm to stay in chain hotels abroad.
