Eating in Dracula’s Birthplace: The Casa Dracula restaurant is in the actual building in which the real Dracula- Vlad Tepes Dracul (aka the Impaler) was born. The outside has a plaque commemorating Vlad. The interior of the restaurant is very regal, but a touch run down, like how you would imagine the debonair vampire Dracula’s home to be like I guess. There are pictures of Vlad the Impaler, red textured wallpaper, candles, gothic furniture, so probably resembling nothing like the family home of Vlad. The food was fairly cheap, but nothing special. Of course I had to have red wine with dinner. Yes that is tacky, but sometimes it is OK to go with the game, no matter how cheesy it is. Let’s face it, authenticity was not what this place served. The service was kind of brusque as well, which was unusual for Romania (and Dracula frankly, wasn’t he supposed to be charming?) Honestly though, we didn’t go there for the food, but to say that we ate in the house where the real Dracula was born. For that it was worth it.
